NATIONAL FINANCIAL INTRODUCES NEXT GENERATION
BROKERAGE TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM

Browser-based Workstation Offers Enhanced Features and Navigation;
New Desktop Workstation Extends Choice and Flexibility for Broker/Dealers

BOSTON, January 14, 2004—National Financial, a Fidelity Investments company, today announced it will be strengthening its StreetscapeSM technology platform through a series of enhancements to its existing browser-based broker workstation, including usability improvements, expanded order management and trading, and enhanced risk management capabilities.

National Financial also announced that it will be launching a desktop-based workstation later this year. The desktop version will allow broker/dealers to manage large amounts of data while maintaining a high level of performance. Additionally, the system's open architecture workstation will offer broker/dealers the ability to integrate their preferred desktop applications, such as market data and contact management packages.

“Sales is not a linear process. How an investment representative moves through the process is unique and depends on a variety of factors, including the needs of the end customer,” said Norman Malo, president, National Financial. “The evolution of Streetscape offers broker/dealers access to an open technology platform designed to meet their specific business process orientation, while empowering true sales force automation and creating greater efficiencies.”

Browser-based Workstation

Among the major enhancements to its browser-based workstation, National Financial will be reengineering the website's navigation to be more intuitive and streamline the sales process from client reporting to order management. For example, the workstation will include 10 primary categories, including trading, reporting and market data and research, allowing users to find information more quickly and reduce the number of steps needed to complete common tasks.

National Financial also will add new functionality to its browser-based workstation, including:

  • Activity Blotter—Allows broker/dealers to create a customized electronic process for the review and approval of transactions. Can help firms more effectively and efficiently monitor sales practices and ensure they are in compliance.
  • Order Query—Allows broker/dealers to create and retrieve ad-hoc, intra-day reports for order data.
  • Order Entry and Trading—Order ticket workflow was enhanced to allow broker/dealers to enter multiple orders across multiple accounts and/or with multiple symbols.

In addition, National Financial will also be making enhancements to Streetscape's online service and operations features, including cashiering and transfer of assets (TOA). These enhancements will help broker/dealers facilitate more straight through processing by migrating traditional back-office tasks to the front-end.

This workstation may be more appropriate for broker/dealers seeking portability, as it can be accessed from virtually anywhere via the Internet.

Desktop-based Workstation

Available in late 2004, National Financial's desktop-based workstation will allow broker/dealers and their representatives to customize their workspaces to meet their unique business needs. Additionally, it will support multiple workspaces and simultaneous functions usage. For example, if an investment representative is entering data for a new account and is interrupted by another customer request, the representative can easily maintain the current information, navigate to a new workspace to handle the new request, and then return to the original task.

This workstation may be more appropriate for broker/dealers seeking higher-end market data and trading capabilities, as well as more control and customization of their workspaces and data.

“Technology continues to play an increasingly important role in helping broker/dealers more effectively serve clients and drive business growth,” said Malo. "The introduction of a desktop-based workstation will take our Streetscape platform to a new level of flexibility by allowing broker/dealers to select a workstation that meets their specific information needs.” Introduced in 2001, Streetscape is National Financial's online brokerage technology platform. It is designed to help broker/dealers more effectively manage and grow their business by providing a single point of access to market data, news and third-party research. It integrates trading and service functionality with investor account balance and position data, and is a resource for business development solutions.
